UAE: ADNOC acquires more supertankers (Ultra-max)

ADNOC Logistics and Services, the shipping and maritime logistics arm of the ADNOC Group, announced the acquisition of a supertanker of the Tramax type for the transport of dry bulk cargo (According to the Emirates News Agency sources).

The announcement comes after the company’s acquisition of two other tankers of the same type earlier this year.

The deadweight tonnage of the new supertanker called “Al Karama” is about 64,000 metric tons. This tanker, which was built in 2019, will be used to transport sulfur from Ruwais Port in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to customers around the world.

Al Karama will join ADNOC’s fleet of supplies and services in the category of supertankers designated for transporting dry bulk cargo, along with both Al Dhafra and Al Wathba, which were built in Japan in 2019.

These supertankers will play a major role in transporting ADNOC products to customers around the world, in particular sulfur.

Captain Abdul Karim Al-Musabi, CEO of ADNOC Supplies and Services, said during the virtual exhibition and conference of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum (ADIPEC) 2020: “The addition of modern bulk carriers to our fleet is part of the growth plans that we announced in 2018 and in response to the increasing demand from our customers on Company services. Adding these ships to our fleet will enhance our regional presence and support our capabilities to provide more options in the shipping market outside the UAE.

He added, “The company will continue to invest, expand and develop its fleet with a focus on smart growth and providing reliable and safe services as part of its strategy for growth and development in the field of shipping, enhancing and increasing value for ADNOC, Abu Dhabi and the UAE.”

The giant “Tramax” tankers for dry bulk cargo transportation feature fuel-efficient engines and intelligent speed management technology that allows the tanker’s engine to operate on steam at very low speeds, thus consuming less fuel and reducing harmful emissions.

ADNOC Logistics and Services’ purchase of four new carriers confirms the company’s focus on modernizing its fleet, developing its shipping capabilities, and using the latest technologies in line with its commitment to global standards for sustainable maritime transport.

ADNOC Logistics and Services, as the shipping and maritime logistics arm of the ADNOC Group, provides world-class integrated services in the areas of shipping, navigation, ports, logistics operations and oil wells along the supply chain of the oil and gas sector in the UAE, through three main business sectors: shipping and Onshore services and offshore logistics services.
