The Secretary-General of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) Ali bin Sabt praised the (Green Saudi Arabia) and (Green Middle East) initiatives recently announced by the Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Muhammad bin Salman.

Bin Sabt said in a press statement that these two initiatives will chart the direction of the Kingdom and the region in protecting the land and nature and placing them in a road map with clear and ambitious milestones, and will contribute strongly to achieving global aspirations.

Bin Sabt praised the pioneering step in the (Middle East) initiative regarding the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the partnership and cooperation with sister countries in the Middle East region to plant an additional 40 billion trees in the Middle East. He explained that the initiative aims to plant 50 billion trees and is the largest reforestation program in the world.

He also pointed out the importance of the important aspects of the “Green Saudi Arabia” initiative in the issues of increasing vegetation cover, reducing carbon emissions, combating pollution, land degradation, and preserving marine life.

He stressed that the two initiatives would contribute effectively to international efforts to combat climate change, enhance competitiveness, spark innovation and create millions of jobs. He pointed to the importance of the contribution of international and regional organizations in supporting the two initiatives by working with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to achieve the principle of international cooperation in the field of the environment.
