The “National Oil Corporation” in Libya appealed to all the conflicting parties calling on them to “demilitarize the oil facilities” so that their workers can carry out their work without endangering their lives.

The company said in a statement posted on its website a few days ago: “The safety of workers and the security of oil installations must remain in the first priority.”

NOC said it was “deeply concerned” about the “continuing militarization” of its oil facilities and the “heavy presence of foreign mercenaries” at various oil fields and ports in the east and south of the country.

The statement adds that the number of mercenaries at the Ras Lanuf Petrochemical Complex has increased recently, which constitutes a threat to the safety of workers and industrial facilities within the complex. There are also a large number of soldiers in the workers’ housing inside the residential area of Ras Lanuf, in flagrant violation of the law and the privacy and security of workers ’housing.

The company added that it also received reports of “large numbers” of mercenaries with military vehicles occupying the residential area in the Zalla oil field. Another group occupies a Schlumberger camp located near the square.

The National Oil Company (NOC) continues to monitor the situation closely with the aim of protecting Libyan oil facilities, and this includes documenting illegal activities taking place in and around North Oil Company facilities, and seeking prosecution for those who harm Libya’s only source of income. The North Oil Company announced the application of the force majeure on January 18, 2020.

It is worth noting that the National Oil Corporation had lifted the application of the force majeure clause on all oil exports from Libya as of July 10, 2020. But it returned days later to announce on July 13 that it had to re-declare force majeure on all oil exports from the country.
