Egyptian LNG
Egyptian Liquefied Natural Gas (ELNG) is Egypt’s largest liquefied natural gas joint venture comprising of both local shareholders, such as the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation “EGPC”, Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company “EGAS” and foreign shareholders, such as BG Group plc, PETRONAS and Suez Gaz de France, all of which are prominent international players in the industry. It was formed in the year 2002, with the aim of producing liquefied natural gas “LNG” safely, reliably and efficiently through a highly dynamic and responsible organization.
Taking its feedgas from the Sapphire, Scarab/Saffron and Simian/Sienna fields, ELNG is considered one of the world’s largest producers of this strategic commodity. Its facilities at Idku, 50 km east of Alexandria, can accommodate an expansion of up to six trains with potentially different ownerships and sources of feedgas. The current facilities comprises two LNG train based on the Conoco Philips’ Optimized Cascade Process, each with a capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per annum, power generation facilities and an LNG export port. Close cooperation amongst the partners has resulted in a highly successful project phase, where it achieved a record for fast commercialization, taking a total time of less than 6 years from gas discovery to first LNG shipment, and also one of the lowest cost facilities. The two LNG trains, which began production in May and September 2005 respectively , has delivered more than 500 LNG cargoes, and continues to provide its clients with a reliable supply of LNG, whilst strengthening Egypt’s position as a world LNG exporter, ranking 8th in terms of export capacity.
Recognizing the risky environment of Oil and Gas operations, Egyptian LNG places a high emphasis on Health, Safety and Environment “HSE”. Its commitment to the health and safety of its employees, subcontractors and the local community of Idku as well as the protection of the environment and the maintenance and integrity of its assets are clearly stated in its policies and demonstrated by the numerous awards and achievements in HSE. To date Egyptian LNG has achieved more than 15 million Safe Man-Hours without any loses or injuries that could stop the production.
Egyptian LNG also recognizes its social responsibility and supports the local community and invested in various community development projects such as:
