Egypt to host second meeting on oil and gas exploration in Mediterranean waters

President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi met at Al Montazah Palace in Alexandria on Thursday, 25/7/2019, the heads of delegations participating in the second ministerial meeting of the Middle East Gas Forum.

 

US Energy Secretary Rick Perry said during the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, held in Cairo, had discussed Turkish attempts to explore the territorial waters of Cyprus.

 

According to Reuters, “Perry spoke at a news conference on the sidelines of a forum meeting, which was attended in Cairo as an observer, but he did not address further details.

 

“We are in the final stages of agreeing to develop the Aphrodite field, and we expect the arrival of Cypriot gas to Egypt in 2024-2025,” Cypriot Energy Minister Yorgos Lakotripis told a news conference in Cairo on the sidelines of the Middle East Gas Forum.

 

On the sidelines of the same meeting, the Israeli Energy Minister said that the testing of the natural gas pipeline to Egypt had been completed. “We have completed the testing of the gas transmission line to Egypt and we expect the gas to reach Egypt in November 2019 and we are talking about seven billion cubic feet per year,” Minister Yuval Steinitz said.
