Shell’s senior executive revealed that the Dutch giant will start supplying Egypt with 1 million metric tons of LNG per year starting in 2015.
Speaking at a summit in Dubai, Shell’s Middle East and North Africa region vice president, Mounir Bouaziz, said that LNG is becoming a solution of choice for countries such as Egypt that has been going through a fierce energy crisis recently.
Egypt that turned from a net exporter to a net importer due to high domestic consumption has recently closed the deal with Höegh LNG for the floating storage and regasification unit paving the way for LNG imports. Höegh LNG’ FSRU Gallant will arrive and begin service in Egypt by the end of March.
