More than 30 projects are under development in the coming years across Latin America, indicating the region’s great potential in the LNG industry.
Thanks to exploring Vaca Muerta, Argentina has reached second place in the global shale gas reserves. The state-run YPF is also planning to build a liquefaction plant for natural gas exports, a project that will require an investment of about $5 billion, which will give the country access to major importers around the world.
In 2019, Chile also agreed to establish a liquefied natural gas plant with an investment of $165 million. Bolivia will export liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Argentine ports and will invest more than $200 million in the port of re-conversion to gas in the cities of Bahia Blanca and Escobar. Colombia has agreed to build a liquefied natural gas plant in the Pacific, which will require an investment of about $300 million; and during this year Ecuador will issue a tender to the developers for a 500-megawatt power plant project.
