Al Mazrouei: The UAE has become a global model for energy efficiency

Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasized that the vision of the wise leadership has been the cornerstone for achieving a qualitative transformation in the UAE’s energy and utilities sector.

In his opening remarks at the World Utilities Congress 2025, which kicked off a few days ago in Abu Dhabi, he said that the UAE, thanks to the directives of its wise leadership and its proactive strategies, has become a global model in energy efficiency, utility sustainability, and long-term planning.

He added: “Today, we are witnessing real achievements thanks to the vision of our leadership, which began thinking early on about the future when Abu Dhabi decided to take bold steps towards privatization, investing in renewable and nuclear energy, and achieving a balance between consumption and efficiency. This forward-looking vision has made Abu Dhabi one of the lowest-cost cities in the world for electricity generation and one of the most advanced in adopting sustainable solutions.”

He emphasized the importance of regulatory policies keeping pace with the rapid developments in the energy sector, especially in light of the increasing global demand for electricity resulting from the expansion of data centers and digital services. He emphasized that the challenge is no longer limited to production, but rather to improving consumption efficiency and adopting modern technologies.

He added, “We need flexible regulations that keep pace with the acceleration of innovation in the energy sector, whether in the field of batteries or smart grids.” He noted that the role of governments must change by empowering the private sector and leveraging artificial intelligence tools to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

He emphasized that the UAE is not only focused on national affairs, but also seeks to share its expertise with sisterly and friendly countries through its leading national companies such as Masdar and TAQA. He emphasized that achieving sustainable transformation requires international partnerships and continuous policy updates.
